Motivation for the Project
The impetus or motivation for this project has largely come from the staff in our Cluster schools. At regular meetings of senior staff from the Kew Cluster schools, (the Cluster was formed prior to the commencement of the BELS2 project [2000] and had already undertaken other school-based projects) our school teams discussed and became more aware of the need to provide quality programs to maintain the ongoing engagement of boys in the curriculum in our schools. This discussion evolved from individual school analysis of student achievement by gender and led to the decision of the Cluster to formally apply for support to further investigate, at much greater depth, the issues and challenges related to boys’ education through the implementation of some classroom based programs in our schools.
